|---|---|---|---|
| .bq | Caribbean Netherlands, Bes Islands (Q filler) | Created in 2010 following the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles (.an). The code represents the three special municipalities of the Caribbean Netherlands: Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba (the “BES Islands”), with “Q” added as a filler letter. Unlike .sx for Sint Maarten, and .cw for Curaçao, which have been delegated to a local registry, .bq has never been added to the root zone. It remains an ISO 3166-1 reserved code and could only be delegated if the Dutch government formally requested IANA to do so. | |
| .bl | Saint Barthélemy | Reserved for the French overseas collectivity of Saint Barthélemy. The domain has never been delegated; France considers .fr sufficient. AFNIC manages several active overseas ccTLDs (.gp, .tf, .wf, .yt, .pm), but .bl and .mf remain undelegated and could be activated if France chose to do so. | |
| .bv | Bouvet Island | Delegated to Norid, but not open for registration. The Norwegian Communications Authority determined that .no covers all Norwegian territories, so .bv (for Bouvet Island) and .sj (for Svalbard and Jan Mayen) are technically delegated but unused. Bouvet Island is uninhabited, and the domain has no local use. | |
| .eh | Sáhara Español (Western Sahara) | Reserved for Western Sahara. Claimed by both Morocco and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic. IANA has held off delegation pending political resolution or mutual agreement. | |
| .gb | Great Britain | Created early in the DNS era (RFC 920) but replaced by .uk. A few historical domains once existed under .gb, but it is now effectively retired and not in active use. | |
| .mf | Saint Martin (French) | Reserved for the French overseas collectivity of Saint Martin. Like .bl and .bq, it remains undelegated. France operates several overseas ccTLDs (.gp, .tf, .wf, .yt, .pm), but .bl and .mf are unused. | |
| .sj | Svalbard and Jan Mayen | Delegated to Norid, but not open for registration. The Norwegian Communications Authority decided that .no is sufficient for all Norwegian territories, and registrations under .sj and .bv are therefore not permitted. | |
| .um | United States Minor Outlying Islands | Originally delegated in 1997 for the United States Minor Outlying Islands and managed by the U.S. Department of Commerce, but it never saw active use. In 2007, a private entity requested redelegation for public registration, which the U.S. government opposed. The domain was subsequently removed from the root zone in 2008 and remains inactive. |
